Research

We study how astrocytes and neurons communicate with one another, and with other cells, to shape brain development and function. We investigate how this cellular communication supports neurodevelopment and how disruptions in these processes contribute to a range of neurodevelopmental disorders. By combining molecular, cellular, and behavioral approaches, we aim to identify shared mechanisms of brain dysfunction.

Who we are

Principal Investigator: Krissy Lyon, Ph.D.

Dr. Krissy Lyon received her B.A. in Biology from Lewis & Clark College. She completed her Ph.D. at Harvard University in the lab of Dr. Susan Dymecki. She then pursued postdoctoral training with Dr. Nicola Allen at the Salk Institute, where she studied the role of astrocyte-secreted factors in the neurodevelopmental disorder Rett Syndrome.
